From sea-stacked beaches to rainforests, from snow-covered peaks to alpine lakes, nothing illustrates the beauty of Washington state like Olympic National Park and the Olympic Peninsula.
This vast wilderness is a reminder that some of the most beautiful things in life are only visible when you take a little extra time, go a little further, look a little more deeply. Here at Marrowstone Inn, we remember to pause and find this beauty. That meditative feeling of the wilderness is there in the early mornings, gazing at Mount Rainier, in the long afternoons in the meadows, and the afternoon shade of the madrona trees with the peaks of the Olympics behind them.
So much of the beauty of Marrowstone lies in its proximity—close enough to the wilderness that awe, adventure, and broader perspective are always within reach. We invite you to join us on some of our favorite hikes and journeys—places that spark our sense of true adventure and our passionate appreciation for life.
Day hikes:
Deer Ridge
Our favorite for a mountainous view is Deer Ridge. Hike through second growth forest, with plentiful springtime wildflowers, for expansive views into the Olympic mountain range.
Trail info:
9.8 miles round trip; elevation gain 2800 ft.
Duckabush River
When the seasons change and the snow begins to cover the high elevation trails, the Duckabush river trail is still in a snow shadow. This is a beautiful year-round hike with moss-covered trees, and mineral-green rivers to explore.
Trail Info:
Up to 10.6 miles round trip; elevation gain 2300 ft.

Mount Storm King
Nestled in the northern foothills of the Olympics is Lake Crescent—its deep blue waters encircled by rolling forestland. To best view the lake, take the Mount Storm King trail, which is short but steep with a scenic view of the central Olympics to reward your climb. We recommend arriving at the end of the day for an incredible sunset.
Trail Info:
3.8 mile round trip; elevation gain 1700 ft.
Overnight:
Marmot Pass
With so many overnight options in the Olympic range, it’s hard to choose where to start. A Marrowstone Inn favorite is Marmot pass, located just behind the town of Quilcene. The Buckhorn Wilderness features alpine meadows, old growth forests, and sweeping views. For those seeking extra adventure, keep going up to the summit of Buckhorn Mountain for a vantagepoint of Mount Rainier, Baker Mountain, Glacier Peak, and Mt St Helens.
Trail Info:
11.5 miles round trip; elevation gain 3489 ft.
